About MantisBT
An issue tracker reachable from the open internet is often there by accident. Bug tracking is internal software. A tracker belongs on a private network beside the source repository, and when a crawler finds one it has usually found a company's working process rather than its marketing.
MantisBT has been that kind of software since 2000, written in PHP and released under GPL v2, which explains both its longevity and where it surfaces. A tracker that installs on any cheap shared host with a database, and needs no license negotiation, spreads into places a commercial product priced per seat never reaches: university departments, municipal IT teams, small software vendors, long lived internal projects at companies that adopted it once and never revisited the decision. Free licensing is also why there is no vendor to ask for a customer count, and why independent detection is the only way to see any of the installed base at all.
As of October 2026 we detect MantisBT on 4 sites, and the reason that number is low is structural rather than a verdict on the project. The instances a crawler can see are the misconfigured ones, the deliberately public ones belonging to open source projects, and the ones parked on a subdomain somebody forgot.
