About Inertia.js

Almost everything a technology crawler finds on the open web was bought, bundled or clicked into place. Inertia.js was not. A site runs it because a developer made an architectural decision, which puts this population in a different category from the template and plugin sites that surround it.

The decision in question is how to get a modern front end without building an API to feed it. Inertia.js is an adapter that lets a server-side framework keep control of routing and controllers while returning front-end page components directly, so a team can write Vue, React or Svelte views against ordinary backend code and skip the separate API layer altogether. Released in 2019 under the MIT licence and written in JavaScript, the library found its main following among Laravel developers and, to a lesser extent, in the Rails world.

Presence therefore implies things that a content-system fingerprint never can. There is a backend team or an agency with real developers. There is a build step, a deployment process, and somebody who understood why an API was avoided rather than added. The site is an application with logged-in users and workflows behind it rather than a set of published pages. For anyone selling developer tooling, error tracking, application hosting, contract engineering or recruitment, that combination is a much sharper qualifier than a roster of sites running a mainstream content system.

As of September 2026 we detect Inertia.js on 127,583 sites, with 66,427 in United States and the domain mix weighted toward .com. Custom application work follows agency and startup density rather than consumer internet size, so the geography reads more like a map of software budgets than of population.

Two honest limits apply. Detection depends on the marker the library leaves in the initial HTML of a page we can actually reach, so an application that lives entirely behind a login screen, or one whose public entry page is rendered by something else, will not be counted, and the real installed base is larger than the figure above. We also hold no version information for Inertia.js, which means this population can be filtered by the technologies it sits beside but not by which release each site runs.

A lookup on one domain confirms a hunch about one company. The downloadable list is the only way to treat custom-built applications as a segment: to see which backends, hosts, payment providers and monitoring tools these teams choose, and to approach them as the small, technical, budget-holding group they are.
