Almost every other ecommerce entry in this dataset answers the question of what a site is built on. Ecwid answers a different one, because it was designed to be added to a site that already exists. The store is a JavaScript widget embedded into whatever the domain already runs, so a domain in this list carries two commerce-relevant facts at once: the platform underneath and the cart bolted on top.

Additive commerce leaves a particular kind of trace. A business that embeds a widget of this sort did not replatform, did not hire an agency to rebuild, and did not want to move its content anywhere. Selling was a feature added to an existing brochure site, blog or social page. What follows is a smaller catalog, a lower order volume and a decision made by an owner rather than a technical team, which is a very different buyer from someone running a dedicated storefront platform.

Ownership matters for anyone tracking the market. Ecwid launched in 2009 and now sits inside Lightspeed Commerce, which gives a small business widget a route into a much larger commerce and point of sale ecosystem. Retail technology vendors watching consolidation care less about the widget than about which merchants come with it. A Freemium model, where the entry tier costs nothing, also means the population mixes real trading businesses with stores that were opened once and abandoned, so activity cannot be inferred from presence alone.

As of September 2026 we detect Ecwid on 3,916 sites. Detection matches the embedded script and store markup on crawled pages, which introduces a real undercount. A store placed on a single product page deep inside a site, loaded only after interaction, or embedded on a social profile instead of a website will not appear. We record no version data, because the widget is hosted and updates itself.

The reason to take the whole list is that the interesting queries are joins. Which content platforms attract embedded carts, which countries and top level domains the pattern concentrates in, and which sites carry both an embedded cart and a payment or marketing tool are all questions about a population rather than a domain. Checking one address tells you a shop exists. The export tells you what kind of shops these are and what else they run.
