.sucks est une nouvelle extension de domaine générique à la vocation résolument provocatrice : offrir un espace pour les plaintes de consommateurs, la critique, les retours sur les marques et la parodie. Lancée en 2015, elle a immédiatement attiré l’attention des entreprises comme des défenseurs de la liberté d’expression, puisqu’elle permet des enregistrements du type « marque.sucks » pour des sites de commentaire et de critique.

L’extension .sucks a servi à la défense des consommateurs, à des sites de responsabilisation des entreprises, au commentaire satirique et à la surveillance de la réputation de marque. Des observateurs ont noté que son lancement avait suscité des craintes d’extorsion liée aux noms de domaine, certains propriétaires de marques s’étant sentis contraints d’enregistrer leur propre domaine .sucks à titre défensif. Malgré la controverse, elle reste un espace de noms actif et une expérience notable dans l’usage expressif des noms de domaine.
