Caddy est un serveur web open source et extensible, écrit en Go, conçu autour de deux principes fondamentaux : la simplicité et le HTTPS automatique. Contrairement aux serveurs web traditionnels comme Apache ou Nginx, Caddy obtient et renouvelle automatiquement des certificats TLS auprès de Let’s Encrypt par défaut, ce qui rend les déploiements sécurisés par défaut simples, sans configuration supplémentaire.

Publié pour la première fois en 2015 par Matt Holt, Caddy a gagné en popularité auprès des développeurs et des équipes DevOps grâce à la syntaxe lisible de son fichier de configuration Caddyfile et à sa prise en charge intégrée de HTTP/2 et HTTP/3. Il est couramment utilisé comme proxy inverse, serveur de fichiers statiques et passerelle API. Caddy est particulièrement apprécié dans les environnements conteneurisés et chez les passionnés d’auto-hébergement. Sa licence commerciale pour les fonctionnalités entreprise est proposée via Ardan Labs et les offres commerciales Caddy Server, tandis que le serveur central reste open source sous licence Apache 2.0.
