Software markets are more national than the web makes them look. WebSite X5 is a Editors sold by Incomedia, an Italian company, and the map of its installs reflects European retail software distribution rather than anything technical about the product. Of the 83,421 domains we detect as of September 2026, 26,769 sit in Germany, and .de registrations carry a large share of the total.

A builder sold through boxed licences and localised resellers ends up wherever its distribution reached, which is why a desktop tool can be common in one market and nearly absent next door. The lesson generalises for anyone using technology data to size a market: a builder's country distribution usually measures its sales channel rather than the preferences of the people building websites.
