About Smartling

A site that has been localised well leaves fewer traces than one that has not. When translation happens before deployment, the shipped pages look like ordinary pages in another language and nothing in the markup names the system that produced them. Smartling sits on that awkward boundary for anyone doing detection work, because a large part of what a translation platform does never reaches a browser at all.

Our index files the product under Translation, which is a rough fit for a system that manages content without necessarily publishing it. Publication comes from Smartling under a Proprietary license, and the record dates the product to 2009. The label matters less than what a match implies. A site carrying the fingerprint is almost certainly publishing in more than one language and paying someone to keep those languages in step, and multi-language publishing is a dependable spend signal, because nobody licenses commercial localisation tooling for a single-locale brochure site.

As of October 2026 we detect the fingerprint on 1 site. The number is a lower bound and belongs in that category rather than in a market share table. Where content is delivered through a translation proxy or a locale-specific hostname, the trace can appear on a subdomain counted separately from the parent brand. Where translated files are exported into a customer's own stack and served as static pages, no trace exists to find. Detection of localisation tooling therefore errs in two directions at once, undercounting customers who deploy statically and occasionally splitting one customer across several hosts.

Given those limits the row works better as a lens than as a census. If the question is whether a named company uses this platform, a single domain lookup answers it faster and more reliably. If the question is which companies have crossed the threshold from one language to many, and which content platforms and ecommerce systems they run underneath, then a list of every site where localisation tooling is visible is the practical way in. Translation agencies use that view to find accounts already convinced of the need, connector builders use it to decide which integrations to write next, and market researchers use it to watch internationalisation spread through a sector.

One habit improves the results in every case. Localisation tooling almost never appears alone on a site, and the platforms beside it, the ecommerce system, the tag manager, the CDN, say more about who signs the contract than the translation tool does by itself. Treat the row as one column of a wider profile and the population it describes becomes considerably easier to qualify.

Frequently asked questions

How many websites use Smartling?

webatla detects Smartling on 1 website, refreshed daily, with its domain, DNS, WHOIS, IP, country and ranking.

Can I download the list of websites using Smartling?

Yes, as structured JSONL. Grab a free sample first.

What's included for each site, and how fresh is it?

Domain, DNS, RDAP/WHOIS, the full technology stack, IP & country, PageRank and Harmonic, re-detected and re-exported daily.

How do I find the websites using Smartling?

Buy the technology dataset, then download the complete list of domains we detect using Smartling, re-exported every day.

What else is in the Smartling technology data?

Each row places Smartling next to the other technology on the same site, plus DNS, WHOIS, IP, country and ranking.

Can I download just the sites using Smartling, or the whole database?

Both. Every site running Smartling comes in the Technologies dataset, one downloadable file. Or buy All data for the entire database: technologies plus identity, ranking, DNS and RDAP/WHOIS for every domain, combined in one file. Daily fresh export.

How do I download the list of websites using Smartling?

Three steps: (1) grab the free 10,000-row sample to inspect the schema, (2) buy the Technologies dataset, (3) download the full list of every domain we detect running Smartling as a JSON Lines file. It is re-exported daily, so you can re-download the freshest list any time inside your access window. Each row carries the domain plus DNS, WHOIS, IP, hosting country and rank.
