About RBS Change
Running a publishing platform and a shop engine from one codebase was a common ambition around 2005, and in Europe it was usually pursued in PHP, because PHP was what agencies could hire for and what shared hosting ran without argument. RBS Change came out of that ambition. The project publishes from a French domain, and platforms of this lineage generally found their customers in their home market rather than internationally, which is worth keeping in mind before reading anything global into the count.
RBS released the code as Open Source software, and that licence choice is what shapes the population we can see today. Open platforms do not switch themselves off when the vendor's attention moves elsewhere. A site built on one keeps working, keeps serving pages, keeps running whatever PHP version it was pinned to at launch, and often keeps doing so long after the last meaningful release. As of October 2026 we detect the platform on 1 site, a figure that reads less like market share and more like a survey of an estate that is still standing.
For several kinds of buyer, an estate is exactly the interesting thing.
