About Podigee

Podcast hosting reaches a technology index as an embedded player, which is why Podigee sits under Widgets here even though what it actually distributes is audio. The classification follows the fingerprint, an iframe or a script that draws a playback widget into a page, rather than the medium being played. Our record attributes the platform to Podigee GmbH, dates it to 2013 and marks the licensing Proprietary. The legal suffix carried in the vendor name points to a German speaking jurisdiction, which is as far as the data lets us go on where the company is based.

As of October 2026 we detect the player on 1 site. A podcast host's real customer base is always wider than its embedded footprint, because the bulk of listening happens inside podcast applications that pull an RSS feed no web crawler ever touches, and a publisher can use a hosting platform without ever placing a player on a page. Our figure captures the publishers who chose to put episodes in front of web visitors, which is a specific and rather interesting subset rather than the whole business.

Those publishers are the ones for whom audio is part of a wider content operation. Placing a player on your own domain means you want listeners to arrive through search and through your existing pages, that you are probably measuring episodes alongside articles, and that somebody in the organisation treats the podcast as owned media instead of a directory listing. Media brands, corporate communications teams and content marketing programmes fit that description far better than independent creators do, who mostly rely on the directories.

For a researcher, the useful question is not whether one publisher uses this host. The useful question is what the embedded population looks like as a group, whether it concentrates on news and magazine domains or on corporate ones, which countries and languages it covers, and what consent, analytics and advertising code shares a page with the player.

A lookup tool answers the first question and cannot touch the second. A downloadable extract gives you the domains and the observation date together, which also lets you compare snapshots and watch a hosting platform gain or lose embedded placements over time, the only view that turns a small static count into a trend you can argue from.
