About Karma
Karma is an open-source test runner for JavaScript, originally developed by the AngularJS team at Google. It executes tests in real browsers or browser-like environments, providing immediate feedback to developers during the development workflow. Karma supports popular testing frameworks such as Jasmine, Mocha, and QUnit.
Karma became a standard tool in Angular-based projects and has been widely used across the JavaScript ecosystem for front-end unit testing. While newer alternatives such as Jest and Vitest have reduced its prevalence in greenfield projects, Karma remains in use in many established enterprise Angular applications and CI/CD pipelines.
