About DoubleVerify

Verification tags are the part of the advertising stack that nobody on the site actually chose. A publisher sells inventory, a buyer insists the impression be measured for viewability, fraud and brand safety, and the measurement code arrives attached to the ad. DoubleVerify is one of the vendors doing that measuring, so finding it on a domain says as much about who is buying there as about who is selling.

As of September 2026 we record the tag on 299 sites, and the figure moves between refreshes more than most entries in our Advertising set. The reason is mechanical rather than commercial. Verification code is frequently injected inside the creative at serve time, so whether we see it on a given domain depends on which ad happened to fill the slot while our crawler was on the page. A site selling through the same exchanges every day can show the tag on one pass and not on the next.

For a researcher, presence remains a strong qualifier. A domain where measurement code appears is a domain running the kind of programmatic demand that agencies audit, which rules out sites monetizing purely through affiliate links, direct sponsorships or their own products. Verification also implies a spend threshold, because buyers who pay for independent measurement are the ones with budgets large enough to worry about waste, and the publishers they reach tend to sit above the long tail of arbitrage inventory.

DoubleVerify sells into that demand side, and our records for the technology begin in 2008. The product is Proprietary and it is bought by advertisers and platforms rather than by the sites where the code lands. The inversion is the useful part of the signal: the site owner is not the customer, so a hit is evidence about the demand reaching a page rather than about a purchase the publisher made.

A per-domain lookup is close to useless for a technology behaving this way, because a single fetch is a single sample of a rotating auction. A full list, taken across an entire crawl and compared between refreshes, is what turns samples into a pattern: which publisher groups carry verification consistently, which ad tech vendors sit beside it in the same page, and which properties gained or lost it since the last snapshot. Anyone building a media plan, a competitive view of the measurement market or a study of programmatic supply should read our figure as a set of confirmed sightings rather than as a client list, and should weigh any single row as probabilistic while trusting the aggregate.
