Amazon is one of the world's most valuable companies, operating marketplaces, AWS cloud services, Prime Video, Alexa, and logistics networks globally. The .amazon TLD was secured through ICANN's new gTLD program after a lengthy delegation process that involved concerns from South American countries about the use of the Amazon river basin name.

As a brand TLD, .amazon is not available for public registration. It is used exclusively by Amazon and its subsidiaries to deploy authoritative branded digital properties, reinforcing customer trust and protecting against fraud. The TLD's delegation in 2019 marked the resolution of a years-long geopolitical dispute between Amazon.com and representatives of the Amazon region nations. It now forms part of Amazon's global digital infrastructure strategy.
