An advertising pixel is a spending signal before it is anything else. Nobody installs one for its own sake, so a site carrying TikTok Pixel has run paid campaigns on the platform or is preparing to. The tag itself is JavaScript supplied by ByteDance, and it reports page views, sign ups, cart activity and purchases back to the ad platform so campaigns can be optimised, audiences rebuilt and conversions attributed to the right click.

Installing it is a small technical act with a commercial precondition attached, which is that somebody at the company holds an ad account and a budget to spend through it. That precondition is what makes the fingerprint worth collecting.

As of September 2026 we find the pixel on 336,519 sites, 218,065 of them served from United States, with .com heavily represented in the suffix mix. The tag has only been in the field since 2019, which is recent compared with the older advertising platforms, so the installed base skews toward sites that have refreshed their marketing stack in the last few years rather than toward the long tail of older brochure sites that were never revisited.

The commercial reading is straightforward enough. A site with an advertising pixel is spending money to acquire customers, which qualifies it for anything sold to performance marketers, agencies, attribution vendors and consent tooling. Cross referencing sharpens it further. A site running this pixel alongside a competing platform's pixel is testing channels and can be argued out of one of them, while a site running it alone has already committed, and the two situations call for different conversations.

Honesty about the limits matters more here than in most categories. A pixel can outlive the campaign it was installed for, sitting in a template long after the budget stopped, so presence proves installation rather than current spend. In the other direction, consent platforms commonly hold advertising tags back until a visitor accepts, and a crawler accepts nothing, so sites that gate their tags never appear at all. The file therefore undercounts the advertising web while slightly overstating active spend within the rows it does contain, and both directions belong in any forecast built on it.

What the download does give you is the population itself. A lookup tells you whether one company you already named is advertising on the platform. The file tells you which companies to name, cut by country, by suffix and by the rest of the stack sitting on the same page, which is where a prospect list or a market study actually starts.
