Preact is a fast, 3kB alternative to React with the same modern API, developed by Google engineer Jason Miller. It provides a lightweight virtual DOM implementation that makes it ideal for performance-critical applications where minimizing JavaScript bundle size is a priority, such as progressive web apps and content-heavy pages.

Preact is fully compatible with the React ecosystem through the preact/compat compatibility layer, allowing developers to use most React libraries and components without modification.
