About Koala
The name is doing too much work here. More than one product has been released as Koala, and the entry in front of you carries facts that do not all belong to the same thing. An MIT licence, a first appearance in 2013 and JavaScript as the implementation language fit an open source developer tool. The website recorded against the entry belongs to a hosted commercial service instead. Our figure counts a fingerprint match, not a company, and the honest position is to say so before saying anything else.
What that means in practice is that a detection here should be checked against the site itself before anyone acts on it. Where an index carries a shared name, the safe reading is that a marker our crawler recognises was present, and that the product behind the marker still needs confirming. Filing under Analytics reflects the same uncertainty. A product that fails to resolve cleanly into a bucket usually has an identity problem in the source data rather than an unusual function.
