Acerca de Mailman

El software de listas de correo es infraestructura de correo, y la infraestructura de correo normalmente no deja nada que un rastreador web pueda leer. Mailman es una excepción, porque incorpora una parte web: páginas de suscripción, páginas de información de lista, pantallas de administración y archivos públicos, todo servido por el mismo puerto que el resto del sitio.

Como la interfaz web es la parte que podemos ver, el recuento mide algo más reducido que el despliegue. Un servidor de listas cuyas páginas web están cerradas al público, restringidas a una red interna o colocadas detrás de un muro de autenticación no aparece en absoluto. En octubre de 2026 detectamos Mailman en 25 sitios, y la lectura honesta es que se trata de hosts que publican abiertamente una interfaz de listas, un subconjunto de las instalaciones y no una muestra aleatoria de ellas.

Nuestro registro archiva el software en la categoría Email, y la etiqueta encaja mal, algo que conviene señalar. Una organización que lo siga usando ha tomado una decisión: mantener las listas, los archivos y los datos de los suscriptores en hardware que controla, y pagar la administración en horas de personal en lugar de en una suscripción.

La señal habla por tanto del operador más que del correo. Un dominio que lo lleve suele tener personal técnico en plantilla, aloja también otros servicios por sí mismo y conserva correspondencia que se remonta lo bastante atrás como para que el archivo sea un activo en sí mismo. Los proveedores de listas alojadas que buscan candidatos a migrar, los investigadores de seguridad que auditan una superficie administrativa expuesta y los archiveros que explotan el historial público de discusiones quieren de nosotros exactamente lo mismo.

Lo que quieren es la enumeración. Una consulta por dominio confirma un host que ya conocía. La pregunta que compensa es qué hosts de toda la web siguen publicando una interfaz de listas, y responderla exige los dominios por adelantado, en un formato que se pueda filtrar, muestrear y revisar más adelante para ver qué se ha quedado en silencio.
