Про EZproxy

Наукова бібліотека витрачає більшу частину бюджету на комплектування на контент, який вона у себе не зберігає. Журнали, бази даних і довідкові зібрання живуть на серверах видавців, а ліцензія визначає, кому з людей дозволено їх читати. За межами кампусу з цього виростає незручна інженерна задача, бо видавець упізнає установу за мережевою адресою, а студент удома має не ту адресу. EZproxy став тим рішенням, на якому зупинилися бібліотеки: проксі автентифікує читача за інституційними обліковими даними й далі забирає ліцензований контент від його імені, тому запит приходить до видавця з ідентичністю бібліотеки.

Розуміння цього потоку пояснює, чому збіг у наших даних є сильним сигналом про організацію за доменом. Проксі такого роду має сенс тримати лише тоді, коли є платні передплати, які треба захищати, і визначене коло людей, що мають на них право. Під опис підпадають університети, коледжі, лікарняні та медичні бібліотеки, державні дослідні установи й корпоративні інформаційні центри, а більше майже ніхто. Перелічувати такі установи за відкритими джерелами інакше довго й марудно, і саме тому навіть короткий список збігів у категорії Reverse proxies має практичну цінність.
