Ripple is an enterprise blockchain network and digital payment protocol designed to enable fast, low-cost international money transfers and currency exchange. Unlike Bitcoin and other proof-of-work blockchains, Ripple uses a consensus protocol that allows transactions to settle in seconds with minimal energy consumption.

Developed by Ripple Labs Inc. and launched in 2012, the network is used by banks, payment providers, and financial institutions to facilitate cross-border payments.
