When using the Public Interest Registry RDAP service, please consider the following: the RDAP service is not a replacement for standard EPP commands to the SRS service. RDAP is not considered authoritative for registered domain objects. The RDAP service may be scheduled for downtime during production or OT&E maintenance periods. Queries to the RDAP services are throttled. If too many queries are received from a single IP address within a specified time, the service will begin to reject further queries for a period of time to prevent disruption of RDAP service access. Abuse of the RDAP system through data mining is mitigated by detecting and limiting bulk query access from single sources. Should you wish to contact the registrant, please refer to the RDAP records available through the registrar URL listed above. About gitlist
Finding a repository browser on a public web server tells you more about the server than about the website in front of it. gitlist is a self-hosted viewer for Git repositories, written in PHP and released under BSD, and its job is to render commit history, diffs and file trees in a browser without a hosting platform behind it. Our index files it under Development, which is honest, because a repository browser is neither a content management system nor a framework nor an analytics tag and does not fit the usual buckets.
The project dates from 2012, from the period when small teams self-hosted their own tooling instead of pushing everything to a hosted service. Software of that generation is often still running years after the team stopped thinking about it, and the version data is consistent with that pattern. We record 1.0.1 as the version in use, and no other release string appears in what we can read.
What a match implies is worth stating plainly. A domain where gitlist answers is a domain exposing source code browsing to the public internet, deliberately or otherwise. Sometimes exposure is the point, for a project that wants its code readable without sending visitors to a third party. Sometimes an internal tool has ended up on a public address, which is a different situation entirely and one that security researchers care about for obvious reasons. The dataset cannot tell you which of the two you are looking at, and anyone using it should keep the ambiguity in mind before drawing conclusions about an organization.
Detection has a hard limit here as well. A tool of this kind normally lives on a subdomain or a path rather than at the root of a site, and it is frequently placed behind authentication or an internal network boundary, so a public crawl sees only the installations that are both exposed and reachable at a discoverable address. As of October 2026 our count is 1, and the figure should be read as the visible remainder rather than as the population.
The visible remainder is still the interesting set, because exposed installations are precisely what anyone doing attack surface research, or building a picture of self-hosted developer tooling, is trying to enumerate. Checking a domain you already suspect confirms one case. Pulling the matched list from the dataset gives you the cases you did not know to suspect, which is the only version of the question worth asking about software this rare.
Frequently asked questions
How many websites use gitlist?
webatla detects gitlist on 1 website, refreshed daily, with its domain, DNS, WHOIS, IP, country and ranking.
Can I download the list of websites using gitlist?
Yes, as structured JSONL. Grab a free sample first.
What's included for each site, and how fresh is it?
Domain, DNS, RDAP/WHOIS, the full technology stack, IP & country, PageRank and Harmonic, re-detected and re-exported daily.
How do I find the websites using gitlist?
Buy the technology dataset, then download the complete list of domains we detect using gitlist, re-exported every day.
What else is in the gitlist technology data?
Each row places gitlist next to the other technology on the same site, plus DNS, WHOIS, IP, country and ranking.
Can I download just the sites using gitlist, or the whole database?
Both. Every site running gitlist comes in the Technologies dataset, one downloadable file. Or buy All data for the entire database: technologies plus identity, ranking, DNS and RDAP/WHOIS for every domain, combined in one file. Daily fresh export.
How do I download the list of websites using gitlist?
Three steps: (1) grab the free 10,000-row sample to inspect the schema, (2) buy the Technologies dataset, (3) download the full list of every domain we detect running gitlist as a JSON Lines file. It is re-exported daily, so you can re-download the freshest list any time inside your access window. Each row carries the domain plus DNS, WHOIS, IP, hosting country and rank.
