About BrowserCMS
BrowserCMS is an open-source Ruby on Rails-based content management system designed to give non-technical users an intuitive, in-context editing experience while providing developers with a flexible platform for building custom sites and applications. It was one of the early Rails CMS solutions that demonstrated how web editing could work directly within the page layout.
Originally developed by Browsermedia and later released as an open-source project on GitHub, BrowserCMS targets developers building custom CMS-driven sites using Ruby on Rails. It features a visual editing interface with drag-and-drop content zones, versioning, workflow approvals, and a modular portlet system. While the project has not seen active development in recent years, it remains available for existing deployments and serves as a reference for Rails-based content management patterns.
