À propos de Jitsi
L’appel vidéo est arrivé dans le navigateur bien après les débuts de Jitsi en 2003 comme projet de communication pour ordinateur de bureau, et l’écart entre ces deux moments explique l’essentiel de ce que signifie une détection aujourd’hui. Écrit en JavaScript pour l’ère du navigateur et publié sous licence Apache 2.0, le logiciel apparaît aujourd’hui sur les sites web d’une seule manière précise. Quelqu’un a intégré une salle de réunion dans une page au lieu d’y coller un lien vers un service de réunion hébergé.
La décision derrière cette intégration est ce qui rend la liste intéressante. Les organisations qui posent une stack de conférence open source sur leur propre site optimisent généralement autre chose que le confort. Des engagements de confidentialité, des règles de résidence des données, des circuits de salle de classe ou de cabinet médical qui ne peuvent pas renvoyer un visiteur vers le mur de compte d’un tiers, ou simplement une préférence pour une infrastructure qu’elles contrôlent. Les organismes publics, les universités, les cabinets médicaux et juridiques, les projets associatifs apparaissent dans ce genre de population bien plus souvent qu’ils ne le font sur le web en général. Sous 8x8 Inc. le projet a conservé à la fois un service hébergé et une distribution auto-hébergeable, et c’est pourquoi la présence sur un site web est ambiguë d’une manière instructive. Une page peut pointer vers le service public ou vers un serveur que l’organisation fait tourner elle-même.
Nous ne pouvons pas toujours distinguer ces deux cas de l’extérieur, et prétendre le contraire serait malhonnête. Le client intégré se ressemble dans les deux cas, et la preuve qui permet de trancher se trouve dans le nom d’hôte auquel le widget s’adresse, lequel n’est pas toujours exposé sur la page que nous récupérons. Les sites qui placent la réunion derrière une identification, ou qui ne chargent le widget qu’après un clic, peuvent nous échapper complètement, si bien que le chiffre est un plancher.
