Qualcuno ha incorporato una sala riunioni in una pagina invece di incollare il link a un servizio di riunioni ospitato.

È la decisione dietro quell’incorporamento a rendere interessante l’elenco. Le organizzazioni che mettono uno stack di videoconferenza open source sul proprio sito di solito puntano a qualcosa di diverso dalla comodità: impegni sulla privacy, regole sulla residenza dei dati, flussi di lavoro di scuole e ambulatori che non possono dirottare un visitatore verso l’obbligo di registrarsi su un servizio di terzi, o semplicemente la preferenza per un’infrastruttura che controllano. Enti pubblici, università, studi medici e legali e progetti comunitari compaiono in questo tipo di popolazione molto più spesso che nel web in generale. Sotto la gestione di 8x8 Inc. il progetto ha mantenuto sia un servizio ospitato sia una distribuzione installabile in proprio, il che spiega perché la presenza su un sito web sia ambigua, ma in un modo che di per sé è informativo. Una pagina può puntare al servizio pubblico oppure a un server gestito dall’organizzazione stessa.

Dall’esterno non sempre riusciamo a distinguere i due casi, e fingere il contrario sarebbe disonesto. Il client incorporato ha un aspetto simile in entrambi, e l’indizio che li distingue si trova nel nome dell’host con cui il widget comunica, che non sempre è esposto nella pagina che scarichiamo. I siti che mettono la riunione dietro un login, o che caricano il widget solo dopo un clic, possono sfuggire del tutto, per cui la cifra è una stima per difetto.
