APC (Alternative PHP Cache) est une extension gratuite et open source de mise en cache d’opcodes pour PHP, qui améliore les performances des applications PHP en mettant en cache le bytecode compilé en mémoire partagée. En supprimant le besoin de réanalyser et de recompiler les scripts PHP à chaque requête, APC réduit considérablement la charge CPU et les temps de réponse.

APC a été largement adopté dans les applications web basées sur PHP tout au long des années 2000 et au début des années 2010 comme outil standard d’optimisation des performances. Avec la sortie de PHP 5.5, un cache d’opcodes natif nommé OPcache a été introduit, remplaçant en grande partie APC pour la mise en cache d’opcodes. La fonctionnalité de cache utilisateur d’APC (APCu), qui fournit un stockage clé-valeur en mémoire partagée pour PHP, continue d’être maintenue comme extension distincte.
