About Kerberos
Kerberos is a network authentication protocol originally developed at MIT that uses secret-key cryptography to provide strong authentication for client-server applications. It operates through a trusted third-party ticket-granting service, allowing users and services to prove their identities securely over an insecure network without transmitting passwords in plaintext.
Kerberos is a foundational technology in enterprise identity infrastructure and is the default authentication mechanism in Microsoft Active Directory environments. It is widely deployed in corporate networks, government systems, and university environments. While not a web-facing technology per se, its presence on servers and in authentication middleware indicates enterprise-grade identity management practices within an organization's infrastructure.
