Live values straight from the dataset, not placeholders. ↓ Free 10K preview
What a WHOIS record holds, on one row
Every row pairs a domain with its registration data. The registrar, the created, expires and last-changed dates, the status and the raw registration record all sit on one row. Click any domain in the preview above to read its full WHOIS data, and every field is public data you are free to query.
Two protocols, one WHOIS database
Registration data comes over two protocols, and this WHOIS database download carries both, normalized into a single schema. In practice you get one RDAP database download and one legacy WHOIS data feed in the same file, so your data pipeline never has to chase two separate services.
RDAP data
RDAP is the modern, structured replacement for WHOIS. It returns clean JSON with typed events, statuses and registrar entities, and it is what most registries now serve. Where a domain answers over this protocol, the database keeps that structured registration data.
Legacy WHOIS data
Legacy WHOIS is the older free-text protocol. Many ccTLDs still answer only over WHOIS, so the database captures that raw WHOIS record too. The whoisMethod field tells you which protocol supplied the data for any given domain.
Nine columns of registration data
The parsed WHOIS fields, plus the whole raw RDAP or WHOIS record.
How the WHOIS database is built, every day
We run the queries and absorb the rate limits, so the data lands in your download already parsed.
Crawl
Take every active domain on the web.
Query
Ask RDAP first, fall back to legacy WHOIS.
Parse
Extract registrar, dates and status.
Redact
Drop personal data per ICANN rules.
Export
Ship one JSONL file, raw records kept.
Who works from the WHOIS database
One daily-refreshed file, many teams. Here is how different buyers put the registration data to work at web scale. Every buyer starts from the same data and slices it a different way, with no per-query services in the loop.
Catch typosquats early
Diff yesterday's records against today's to get an instant feed of new registrations that fuzzy-match your brand.
Measure registrar market share
Group the data by registrar and plot share over time across any TLD to see who is winning and losing domains.
Predict drops and windows
Filter the records by expiry date and brand match to find tomorrow's drops before the backorder crowd does.
Cluster malicious registrations
Pivot on registrar, creation date and status to group bulk-registered abuse domains that share a registration fingerprint.
Prove registration history
Pull the raw registration data for any domain to evidence ownership dates and registrar for a dispute or takedown, straight from the WHOIS data.
Skip the rate limits
Get registration data for 380.8M domains in one download instead of crawling registry RDAP and WHOIS services one query at a time.
Query the registries yourself, or download the database
Querying RDAP and WHOIS yourself
- Registry RDAP and WHOIS services throttle you to about one query per second.
- Full-web coverage means hundreds of millions of lookups, repeated daily.
- The two protocols return different shapes you have to normalize yourself.
- GDPR redaction rules differ by registrar and are easy to get wrong.
The WHOIS database download from webatla
- Registration data for 380.8M domains in one file, no rate limits.
- RDAP and WHOIS normalized into a single schema, with the raw records kept.
- Re-queried continuously and re-exported daily.
- GDPR redactions already applied under ICANN's Temporary Specification.
Query the WHOIS database in place
The WHOIS database download loads into Postgres, ClickHouse, BigQuery or DuckDB with no preprocessing. Parsed fields are plain columns and the raw registration data is a text field, so any query on the data runs offline against your own local copy.
SELECT domain, registrar FROM 'rdap-whois.jsonl.zst'
WHERE expires < '2026-08-01' ORDER BY expires
One-line recipes on the data
Because every field is a plain column, the WHOIS data answers most questions in one line, with no lookup services to call and no rate limits on the data.
Every domain at a registrar
The full book of business for any registrar, in one list.
Newly registered names
A daily feed of fresh registration data.
Records that came over RDAP
Filter the data by which protocol answered.
Expiring with a status hold
At-risk domains, straight from the records.
Registration data you can trust
Both protocols, one schema
RDAP and legacy WHOIS are normalized together, so you query one schema instead of parsing two different formats.
GDPR-compliant redactions
Personal data is redacted where ICANN's Temporary Specification requires, so the WHOIS database download ships only the public registration data that registry services are allowed to publish.
Rebuilt daily
Records are re-queried continuously and the whole database is re-exported each day, so the data never goes stale.
Spanning 1,435 TLDs and 239 countries
webatla tracks domains across every TLD and country. The largest by domain count, each linking to its full profile.
Subscription, freshness, licensing & refunds
How do I download the WHOIS database?
Buy one month of access and pull the full WHOIS database as a single zstandard-compressed JSONL file (74.5 GB). This WHOIS database download re-exports daily, so you can grab the latest data anytime inside your access window.
Do I get RDAP data as well as WHOIS?
Yes. Both protocols ship in one schema. RDAP is the modern structured registration service and legacy WHOIS is the older text format, and the whoisMethod field tells you which one answered for any domain.
Is the raw WHOIS record included?
Yes. Every row carries the parsed fields, the registrar and the created, expires and last-changed dates, plus the raw registration data so you can parse any detail yourself.
How do you handle GDPR?
Personal-data fields are redacted where required under ICANN's Temporary Specification. What ships is the public registration data, the registrar, the dates, the statuses and the redacted raw record.
How fresh is the data?
Records are re-queried continuously and the full database is re-exported every day. Inside your access window you can re-download the latest data whenever you want.
What format does the file come in?
JSON Lines, zstandard-compressed (74.5 GB). The WHOIS database loads into any warehouse, and the raw record ships as a text field you can query directly.
How does access work?
You get one month of access, or a year at €2990. Inside that window you can re-download the latest daily export whenever you want.
How do I get the data after I pay?
The moment your payment clears, the dataset appears in your account downloads. You can re-download the latest daily export as often as you like for your whole one-month access window.
Can I use the data commercially?
Yes. Commercial use inside your organisation is covered by the webatla data licence (see the Terms). For redistribution, reselling or multi-year licensing, contact us first.
Do you offer refunds?
Datasets are digital products, so all sales are final, which is exactly why every dataset has a free 10K-row preview to check the schema before you buy. The one exception is a material defect such as a broken file, the wrong schema, or more than 5% missing rows. Email support within 72 hours and we'll re-issue or refund.
