Trovare Zepto su un sito web oggi dice soprattutto qualcosa sul tempo. La libreria è stata scritta per risolvere un problema che nel frattempo è svanito: jQuery era pesante, le connessioni mobili erano lente e i browser per dispositivi mobili erano diventati abbastanza coerenti da rendere un peso morto gran parte dello strato di compatibilità di jQuery. Zepto ha mantenuto l’interfaccia familiare e ha eliminato tutto il resto.

Il problema era reale e la risposta era valida, ma i browser hanno continuato a evolversi. I metodi DOM nativi hanno assorbito gran parte di ciò che la libreria offriva, gli strumenti di build hanno reso le dimensioni del bundle una questione risolta e i framework hanno cambiato alla radice il modo in cui si costruiscono le pagine. I nuovi progetti hanno smesso di ricorrervi. Resta una popolazione di pagine costruite quando la scelta aveva senso e mai rifatte da allora, più temi, widget e componenti incorporati che portano avanti la libreria per conto di siti che non hanno mai scelto nulla.

Una geografia piatta è di per sé un risultato, perché è così che appare una dipendenza ereditata. Un prodotto con una forza vendita si concentra.
