I software wiki si trovano per lo più dove un crawler non riesce ad arrivare. La piattaforma XWiki è pensata per basi di conoscenza interne, documentazione dei team e intranet, e una base di conoscenza interna, per definizione, non risponde a una richiesta anonima proveniente dall’internet pubblico. Tutto ciò che possiamo contare è la parte esposta di una base installata il cui grosso si trova dietro un login, una VPN o un firewall.

A ottobre 2026 la nostra scansione registra XWiki su 4 siti, e il valore va letto tenendo ben presente questo limite. Le istanze pubbliche sono i portali di documentazione, i wiki comunitari e i siti di progetto che un’organizzazione ha deciso deliberatamente di aprire. Ogni altra installazione dello stesso software è invisibile a noi e a qualsiasi altra scansione esterna, il che costituisce una lacuna strutturale e non un problema di copertura risolvibile con una scansione più ampia.

XWiki SAS mantiene la piattaforma con la licenza LGPL, e il codice risale al 2004, il che è parecchio per un software web e dice qualcosa su chi lo usa.
