Про MochiKit

Ще до того, як обіцянки стали частиною мови, код на JavaScript, який мусив чекати на відповідь мережі, писали як гніздо зворотних викликів. MochiKit є бібліотекою загального призначення тієї доби, ретельно задокументованим набором модулів для ітерації, роботи з DOM, форматування, журналювання та асинхронних викликів, зробленим розробниками, які взяли те, що їм подобалося в Python і Objective-C, і пристосували це до браузера. Асинхронний модуль бібліотеки був змодельований за Twisted, мережевим фреймворком мовою Python, а відкладені об'єкти в ньому надали послідовної форми коду, перевантаженому зворотними викликами.

Бібліотеку такої витримки ніхто не додає до нового проєкту. Сторінка, яка досі її віддає, або не перебудовувалася від дня, коли її зробили, або несе одну підсистему, до якої ніхто не наважується торкатися: адміністративний екран, генератор звітів, форма, що працює і автор якої пішов. Станом на жовтень 2026 р. ми фіксуємо MochiKit на такій кількості сайтів: 37, і цікавою властивістю цього набору є вік, а не розмір.

Два записані факти пояснюють, чому код затримується. Ліцензія тут MIT, а розповсюдженням був звичайний файл JavaScript, який копіювали в проєкт, тому ніщо ніколи не змушувало до перегляду. Не спливає жодна підписка, жоден постачальник не надсилає повідомлення про припинення підтримки, і ніщо не ламається за власним розкладом. Програмне забезпечення виживає приблизно пропорційно до того, наскільки дешево воно дісталося, а безкоштовний файл, отриманий завантаженням, це найдешевше з можливого. Тому перший випуск у 2005 році задає нижню межу для віку сторінки навколо коду, а не для віку самого коду.

Для дослідника сайти, які досі віддають бібліотеку, є замінником того, що важче виміряти прямо, а саме вебсторінок, що випали з будь-якого циклу обслуговування. Команди безпеки, які складають картину невиправленого фронтендного коду, хочуть саме цю сукупність. Хочуть її й агенції, що шукають роботу з перебудови, і всі, хто вивчає, як довго вебтехнологія насправді виживає в продакшені, а не в примітках до випусків.

Підрахунок є підлогою, і недобір тут структурний, а не випадковий. Виявлення залежить від того, чи приходить бібліотека окремим упізнаваним файлом. Щойно той самий код мініфіковано в бандл разом з усім іншим на сторінці, сигнатура зникає, тож старий проєкт, який згодом пропустили через крок збірки, стає невидимим, хоча код і далі працює. Підрахунок того, що можна довести з відданої сторінки, тримає цифру чесною, і це також означає, що справжній хвіст уцілілих довший за той, який ми можемо опублікувати.

Перевірка одного домену знімає підозру щодо одного сайту.
