Un generatore di siti statici lascia pochissime tracce. Quando un progetto Pelican raggiunge il browser è ormai semplice HTML, CSS e immagini, difficile da distinguere da una pagina scritta a mano o dall’output di qualsiasi altro generatore della stessa famiglia. Il rilevamento dipende da ciò che la fase di build ha scelto di lasciare nel markup, come un meta tag del generatore, un feed strutturato in una forma familiare, oppure directory dei temi e nomi delle risorse che seguono le convenzioni del progetto. Tutto ciò che rimuove o sovrascrive questi marcatori diventa invisibile per noi, ed è per questo che il conteggio di questa pagina va letto come una stima per difetto e non come un censimento completo.

Ciò che sopravvive al rilevamento ha comunque un significato. Lo strumento Pelican rientra nella categoria Static site generator solo in modo approssimativo, perché non c’è alcun database alle spalle e nessuna pagina di login da difendere.
