ShinyStat S.p.A. released it in 1997, and the product is still sold under a Proprietary model out of Italy, where it built its audience among publishers and online retailers, the two groups the vendor's own company pages still address. The history matters for what the tag actually signals. ShinyStat sits in the Analytics category, but the vendor sells it in a free edition alongside paid business and provider tiers, so a script in a page can mean a live subscription or a badge somebody added at no cost and never removed. The company has since paired the measurement product with on-site marketing automation and a data platform of its own, which describes where the business went rather than what any single install is doing. Longevity has a second consequence. A product released in 1997 accumulates installs that outlive the people who chose them, so part of the base is active measurement and part of it is inertia on sites that were built a long time ago and never rebuilt. The downloadable list tells you the shape of the installed base: how much of it clusters in publishing and regional media, how many of those domains run a modern analytics tag alongside the old one, and which of them would take a call from a competing measurement vendor or an ad-tech supplier. Researchers studying how a long-lived European product holds its base need the whole set rather than a sample of it. The distribution across country domains and site types is the answer, and a distribution cannot be assembled one lookup at a time. The count deserves a caveat. Detection depends on the tracker script or the visible counter badge being present in the page we fetch, so installations that are proxied, injected through a tag manager under a first-party name, or confined to sections behind a login will be missed. Sites that kept the reporting account but removed the public badge are similarly hard to see.
