Polylang tells you something about the audience that site is trying to reach, which is a rarer and more commercially useful kind of row. The plugin exists to run one installation in several languages without splitting it into a network of separate sites. Translated posts and pages, translated menus and taxonomy terms, and language routing built into the URL are the core of it. WP SYNTEX has maintained the project since 2011, in PHP, under GPL v2, with a paid edition adding shop and workflow features on top. As of October 2026 we detect it on 269,515 sites in the Translation group. The distribution of those sites behaves differently from a typical plugin. 53,713 of them sit in United States, which leaves the majority of the population spread across other countries, and the generic .com suffix conceals much of that spread. Multilingual tooling clusters where borders and languages sit close together, in trading regions, tourism economies, and countries with more than one official language, so the geographic shape of this row looks less like a software market and more like a map of who has to sell across a language line. What an installation implies is a decision that keeps costing money. Translation is editorial work that never finishes, since every new page and every price change has to be carried across, so a site running the plugin has either committed to that work or intends to. Localisation agencies, machine translation vendors, cross-border payment and logistics providers, and international search tooling are all looking for exactly that population, and it does not appear in any company registry, because adding a second language is not a filing. Every row here carries WordPress underneath it, which makes the column comparable against the other translation approaches in the same ecosystem, from competing plugins to full multisite networks to sites that simply run a separate installation per country. Mapping a market by which approach it picked says more about the maturity of its international operations than any single vendor count does. Two caveats matter before the list is used. Having the plugin installed does not prove translations exist, since plenty of sites configure it and stall, so the row measures intent more reliably than delivery. And the routing choice changes what a crawl can see in the first place, because language subdirectories keep everything under one host while subdomains and separate country domains scatter the same content across several rows in a domain table. Anyone counting multilingual businesses rather than multilingual hosts has to reconcile those shapes deliberately.
