The browser agent has to run inside the visitor's page in order to measure real user performance, so a script whose whole purpose is observing page loads ends up recorded in the source of every site that enables it. What the presence implies is an engineering organization rather than a website. Instrumenting an application means somebody is paid to care about latency, error rates and traces across services, and somebody approved a monitoring budget. New Relic Inc. has sold the platform since 2008 on a Freemium model, so the entry point is free and serious usage is not, and a company far enough along to run browser monitoring in production is usually a company already paying for the platform underneath it. Detection has a large blind spot that is worth stating plainly. Only the browser side is visible. A team running application performance monitoring, infrastructure agents, log ingestion and distributed tracing with no browser agent enabled is invisible to any external scan, and plenty of backend-heavy customers are configured exactly that way. As of October 2026 we detect New Relic on 7,890 sites, and the number describes sites carrying the browser agent, not the vendor's customer base. Read with that limit in mind, the list is still a rare external view into observability adoption, a category where vendors publish revenue but nobody publishes deployments.
