The specification describes how a template written with double brace delimiters is rendered against a data object, and implementations exist for a long list of server and client languages. Our detection sees only one of those implementations, the browser one, and the difference matters when reading the count. The browser build is a Miscellaneous written in JavaScript and released under the MIT licence, first published in 2009, back when rendering happened in the page rather than in a build step. Presence of the script on a live page implies a particular architecture. Data arrives from an endpoint as JSON, a template is filled in on the client, and the resulting markup never existed on the server. Search crawlers, accessibility tooling and scrapers all have to live with that consequence. As of October 2026 the library is detected on 16,415 sites. A pair of corrections belongs beside that figure. Bundled copies vanish, because a project that compiles the library into an application bundle leaves no separately named file for a crawler to recognise, and server side implementations in other languages leave no client trace at all. The count is a count of pages that load a recognisable browser build, which is a subset of the real installed base and skews towards older, unbundled front ends. The skew is useful rather than fatal, provided you know it is there. A page still shipping a standalone template engine is usually a page whose front end predates the current toolchain, so the list works as a dating tool for codebases. Agencies pitching rebuilds, security teams scoping dependency audits and researchers studying how client side rendering spread all want the population rather than a verdict on a single domain. A per domain lookup tells you that a site loads the file. The export tells you how many such sites exist, what else they load, which suffixes and industries they concentrate in, and whether the population is shrinking from one release of the data to the next.
