When a new array method collided with old copies of the library still loading on public pages, the committee behind the language renamed the method rather than break those sites. The library arrived in 2006, in the years when browsers disagreed about nearly everything and a JavaScript framework earned its keep by papering over those differences. The problems it solved were then fixed by the browsers themselves, and new projects stopped reaching for it a long time ago. A page carrying the library today is rarely a page that picked it recently. The framework survives in a few recognisable situations: a site built during its active period and never rebuilt, a theme or extension that bundled it and was never refreshed, or a large application where removing a dependency is riskier than living with it. Under its MIT licence anyone could ship it inside a template, which is how it reached codebases whose owners never made a framework decision at all. As of October 2026 we still see it on 207,448 sites, which is a reminder of how slowly the web actually retires code. 42,382 of those sites are in Germany, and .com is the extension we record for the largest group of them. The geographic skew is less about national taste than about which local publishing platforms and template markets were busy during the framework's active period, and about how long their output stayed online afterwards. The audience for this cohort is unusual. Security researchers want it because old client side dependencies are where known vulnerabilities accumulate and where nobody is watching. Agencies and freelancers want it because a page still shipping a framework from that era is a page with a rebuild budget waiting to be argued for. Analysts studying technology decay want it because the library is a clean tracer, in that adoption effectively stopped, so every remaining installation measures abandonment rather than choice. A per domain lookup can confirm a single suspicion. The list is what lets you measure the decline itself, snapshot against snapshot, and find the pockets where it has barely moved. A couple of caveats belong on any count of a legacy library. Detection sees the file a page loads, not whether any code still calls into it, so some of these sites carry the framework as dead weight in a bundle nobody has opened in years. Minified and concatenated builds can hide it entirely, which pushes the number down rather than up.
