Loox tells you about the platform underneath it, because the app was built for a single storefront ecosystem and installs from that ecosystem's app store. Finding the review widget in a page is therefore two findings at once: the merchant collects customer photo reviews, and the merchant runs the host platform those reviews are wired into. Loox started the product in 2015 on a narrow idea, which is that a review with a photograph attached persuades differently from a review made of text. The widget that results is visual by default, and merchants install it to lift conversion rather than to gather feedback. Placement in the Reviews category slightly understates what the signal is worth. A store that has bothered to set up review automation, request emails and a referral flow is a store with repeat customers and enough order volume to make the effort pay back. As of October 2026 we detect Loox on 24,249 sites. Detection rests on the widget rendering inside the storefront theme, which is normally the case, but merchants who pull reviews through the API and render them in a custom theme component can defeat it entirely. A store in that situation is a customer we cannot see. The count should be read as merchants using the standard embed rather than as the vendor's subscriber list. The Proprietary license means there is no community edition and no forked copy in the wild, so each detection is a paying or trialling account rather than an installation of free software.
