JBoss Web is evidence of a decision made a long time ago and never revisited. The component is the HTTP and servlet layer of the JBoss application server, the part that accepted requests and executed servlets and JSP pages for the Java applications deployed behind it, so its appearance in a response header or an error page says less about a web server preference than about an entire enterprise estate standing behind the door. JBoss Web came out of Red Hat and was distributed under LGPL, with a history reaching back to 2005. The lineage explains the shape of what we find. Application servers of that era were installed by systems integrators, configured once and left running under business applications nobody wanted to touch, and later releases in the same product line moved to a different, non blocking HTTP layer entirely. What remains visible on the public web is therefore a population of installations that stopped receiving attention rather than a population of current choices. The version data makes that point more precisely than any description can. Across every detection we hold only 3 distinct versions of JBoss Web, and the release we encounter most often is 2.0. Software under active development produces a long tail of versions in a fingerprint dataset, because sites upgrade at different speeds and there is always something newer to upgrade to. A spread this narrow means the code stopped moving, so what the dataset records is not upgrade behaviour but the year each server was last built.
