Emotion arrives underneath something else, usually a React component kit chosen for its buttons and tables, and the CSS in JS layer that kit depends on travels into the bundle without anyone evaluating styling approaches at all. Released under MIT and in circulation since 2017, the library lets styles be written inside JavaScript and generated at runtime from component state and props. The design systems built on top of it are the reason it travels so widely. When a team picks a popular React component library, the styling engine arrives underneath it, unannounced and without a version string that reaches the page. The useful inference is therefore indirect. A site carrying the runtime is very likely a component driven application built by people working in a modern JavaScript toolchain, rendered in the browser or through server side rendering that still ships the runtime with it. Nobody adds a CSS in JS engine to a brochure site assembled in a page builder. The fingerprint marks engineering practice rather than a product decision, which is exactly what makes it valuable to anyone selling into engineering organisations. As of October 2026 we detect the library on 322,945 sites, 240,558 of them served from United States and .com well represented across the suffix mix. Geography for a build time dependency mostly reflects where product teams and their hosting sit, so the country column here is a proxy for where an application is served rather than for where its users are. For anyone selling developer tooling, component libraries, front end consulting or performance work, a list of sites carrying this dependency is a list of engineering teams, which is a much tighter audience than a list of sites in an industry. The download provides that audience as a population you can filter and sample, while a per domain check can only confirm one member of it at a time and gives you no way to find the next one. The count should be read as a floor. There is no version to segment on, since the runtime does not announce a build, and detection depends on recognisable class name patterns and injected style markers surviving into the delivered page. A build that renames those patterns, or a site that ships fully extracted static stylesheets, drops out of our view completely. Presence in the file is reliable.
