The search engine sees structured rating data that can become stars beside an ad or a listing, and the second audience is the reason a lot of merchants pay for a review platform at all. eKomi belongs to the branch of that category built on transaction verified reviews, where an invitation goes out after a purchase rather than the platform collecting whatever anyone chooses to post. Verification changes who buys it. Merchants in regulated or high consideration markets, among them finance, insurance, health, automotive and travel, need reviews that survive scrutiny, and European merchants in particular work under advertising rules that make unverifiable testimonials a liability rather than an asset. eKomi Ltd. has run the service from Berlin since 2008, and the product has been shaped by that market, from the way invitations are timed to the way ratings are fed into search and shopping surfaces. For a researcher, the widget is a compact statement about a merchant: it sells enough to have a review flow worth automating, it cares about seller ratings in paid search, and it chose to pay for verification instead of collecting reviews for free. Vendors of competing review, feedback and post purchase tooling read that as a qualified prospect. Analysts read a whole population of such domains as a proxy for how far a national market has gone in adopting trust signalling at all. Detection rests on the widget and badge scripts a site loads, which sets the boundary of what can be claimed from it.
