DataTables was released in 2008, in the middle of the jQuery era, and it is still turning static markup into working interfaces on a very large number of pages. The library takes an ordinary HTML table and adds sorting, searching and pagination, either in the browser or against a server. The MIT licence has consequences that shape how this data should be read, because permissive terms mean the code travels inside other products. Admin themes ship it, plugins bundle it, internal tools carry it forward through rewrites, and a great many site owners have never made a decision about it at all. What gets counted is the presence of the library, not a preference for it. Attribution is the honest caveat here. When the code is folded into a minified application bundle, the fingerprint can vanish, so the count leans toward installations that load it as a recognisable file and away from those that compile it into something larger. The direction of that error is downward. SpryMedia maintains the project, and the detection surface it exposes is generous compared with modern packages, which is one reason a library this old stays measurable at all. What the library's presence says about a page is unusually specific for a general purpose dependency. A table with client side sorting and paging normally means a data heavy interface: a catalogue, a directory, a dashboard, a specification or price list, a set of search results. Public pages that load it are close to a definition of pages that publish structured records, which is why data extraction and licensing teams find this population more interesting than the library itself would suggest. A second implication is architectural. Releases before the dependency free rewrite required jQuery, so an installation from that generation marks a stack from a particular period, one that a modernisation vendor, a security auditor or a framework migration service can act on directly.
