As a modular polyfill library it arrives inside a JavaScript bundle, pulled in as a transitive dependency of a transpiler preset or a framework starter, and the person responsible for the website will often never have heard of it. Anyone scanning the web for core-js is therefore not measuring adoption in the usual sense of a preference or a purchase. What the scan measures is the residue of build pipelines, and once you accept that framing the data becomes more useful rather than less. A polyfill exists so that newer language features keep working in older engines. A site shipping core-js is a site whose toolchain was configured, at some point, to support browsers its visitors may long since have abandoned, and such configuration is rarely revisited. Front end weight, page speed budgets and the slow decay of unmaintained sites all follow from the same fact. First published in 2014 and MIT licensed, the library has outlasted several generations of browser support policy, which is why a bundle served today can still carry compatibility shims for engines almost nobody runs. Detection is inferential and it undercounts. Fingerprints survive minification unevenly, bundlers rename and tree shake, and a build that inlines only a handful of polyfills may leave nothing recognisable behind at all.
